"Very Poor"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

I took my 80 year old mum for some tests recently ,she has a lump on her bowel. The fast track clinic ran 90 mins late and was very hot,but this was explained and a fan was sought and put on.Next, mri scan, all good. Then onto the ct scan, again,no problems there.Last week I took her for a colonoscopy,Sat 10am.Mum is not well and could,nt eat from 9am Friday,so as well as taking the meds ready for the exam, she was hungry too. After about 30 mins of being there and other patients telling us their appointments were for the same thing but at 8.30am,we were told that the clinic had been booked but that a doctor had not.Unbelievable.People were annoyed and mum was upset. They said they were trying to get a doctor out but if they got one, they might not see all patients and so they might have to cancel and re-book.Mum was very upset at the thought of going through it all again and the worry of it all. After asking, much later for an update,we were told a doctor had been found and we went in about 12.30.Not good enough and very stressful to all concerned. We hav'nt had any follow up for any tests, over 2 weeks now of worry and wondering every time the phone rings if it is her results. Was told they would be back now.Why should I have to keep phoning and them say they will follow it up.Hope her surgery and treatment if needed goes better.

Response from Scunthorpe General Hospital

Hello, thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately the issue of the clinician not attending on time was an admin error, which has never happened before and will not be repeated. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this caused you and your mother. Hopefully she will by now have been notified of her test results - please can you contact her consultant if this has not happened? Kind regards, Sarah Mainprize
