"Bad driving by an ambulance"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as other),

I was driving from Bruton to Frome on the A359 on Tuesday 6th May at approx. 12. 10 when an ambulance came up behind me at great speed with the siren and lights flashing. I immediately looked for somewhere to pull in but this was impossible as it was a narrow road with nowhere to stop.

I then tried to pull over to the left so that the ambulance could overtake but it was not possible because of the bendy road. At this point the ambulance began to sound its horn continually for about 10 seconds. I became alarmed and confused as I simply couldn't do anything to allow the ambulance to pass.

A few seconds later the horn began to sound continuously and I began to panic. All I could do was speed up but I feared that this was putting me in danger on such a windy road. The horn didn't stop and eventually I spotted a narrow entrance to a field on a bend where I pulled into at great speed and didn't manage to stop the car until it was in the hedge.

I was shaking and very upset as I could easily have had a serious accident. I tried to think of what the ambulance crew were expecting me to do in such circumstances. They could so easily have cost me my life while trying to save another. I wondered if they would have stopped for me if I had crashed my car? They would not even have noticed!

I wish to make the strongest complaint about this. I am a mother of 2 and could have been killed.
