"Listen to the patient!!"

About: Leeds General Infirmary

My daughter (5) was admitted to ENT for gromits putting in, and tonsils and addernoids out, before she went into theatre the anaestheist called us into a room to meet my daughter and also ask us a few questions. They asked my daughter if she would like to go to sleep either by mask or canula, my daughter chose to have mask and the anaestheist said that was fine and agreed to my daughter's choice. At 7.45am they put the 'magic' cream on my daughter's hand should she need a cannula if the mask failed etc.. the nurse said this cream lasts for maximum 4 hours. She got taken to theatre at 12.50pm and the nurse said she may still be numb even though she'd had the cream on over the recommended time for numbing. In theatre the staff tried to keep my daughter occupied with books and it worked until the anaestheist started wiping my daughter's hand with a wipe to put a cannula in, I told them not to as my daughter didn't want that and that they'd agreed with her so why was she doing it and their reply was 'its quicker and I can see a vein) by this point my daughter was screaming while getting the cannula in, it's the worst feeling when your child is screaming 'help me mummy!!' After all the stress they put my daughter through the vein collapsed in the end and my daughter ended up being pinned down by 5 staff and holding a mask on her face at the same time. All I could do was try and comfort my daughter even though in all honesty I was absolutely livid!! When my daughter was in recovery the anaestheist came to see us saying all went well and asked if we were ok, when I gave them my reply they couldn't apologize enough but by this time I just wanted to see my daughter, obviously they knew they were in wrong as you only apologize when you have to! Now my daughter's hand is badly bruised and very red looking all round her wrist and I can't even dress her without her crying! What this person did to my daughter is disgusting!! This is my review, next stop is complaints, then if they don't listen I will keep going further up departments!!! FUMING!!!
