"I was being treated for a post-incisional ..."

About: Leighton Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was being treated for a post-incisional hernia that occured after surgery at another hospital. At Leighton, the consultant gave me clear information. The operation went well. The nursing care was excellent. I didn't get any infections and my wound healed very quickly.

What could be improved

I could have done with more information about what would happen when I returned home in terms of what I should and should not do. I am a vegetarian and the food was terrible and there was very little choice.

Anything else?

When I arrived at Leighton there was no bed free and I had to wait four hours in the day room for a bed to become available. As I was feeling quite nervous about the operation, this added to the stress quite a lot.

Thank you for the comments you have forwarded to Leighton Hospital following your recent stay. It is good to hear that you received good care and that your operation went well. I am however sorry that you were unhappy with the vegetarian options on the food choice and I will ensure that your comments are passed to the Hotel Services Manager within our Catering Department.

Also, I can only apologise that you had to wait for a bed and this added to your stress levels, but unfortunately along with many other hospitals we have been experiencing difficulties with bed shortages brought about by winter vomiting and increased demand for beds.

I am also very sorry that you did not feel you were given enough information on relevant after care and I would be more than happy to further your inquiries, if you could provide me with some additional information. If you wish to speak to me or another member of the PALS team we can be contacted in the PALS Office on 01270 612410 between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. In the meantime, thank you once again for taking the time to let us know of your experiences.
