"My mother was transferred to JCUH ..."

About: The James Cook University Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mother was transferred to JCUH from another NHS Trust - she stayed on Ward 7 (surgical/vascular). The care she received before, during, and after, 2 operations was excellent- all staff at every level were very respectful. She was kept clean and her bedding was changed not just daily but as and when any spillages occurred (on one day this happened 3 times). The staff rang me and spoke to me on a continual basis and gave factual information in a very compassionate way.

What could be improved

More tea/coffee machines for visitors please.

Anything else?

One of my mother's operations was an evening emergency and one of the receptionists (at the entrance nearest the chapel) offered to and made my cousin and I coffee as all the restaurants were closed - we were upset and this made a big difference - thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments on to the NHS Choices website. Please be assured these have been send to the Clinical Matron for Surgery and Assistant Director of Hotel Services.

Your comments regarding more tea and coffee machines for visitors will be explored further with the service providers. The feasibility of increasing the number of machines will be considered, taking into account the Health and Safety aspects of people walking around the hospital with hot drinks.

Many thanks again for your feedback.
