Following a reverse shoulder replacement on March 26 then spent two nights in Swift Ward. I was impressed by the quality and facilities in the room I shared with one other lady. The night staff and ward manager were extremely professional and dealt with problems immediately. Some of the day staff were unfamiliar with what was required on this ward. They had come from other parts of the hospital. Overall my stay although short was as pleasant as could be following major shoulder surgery. I was seen twice by the physio and given appropriate exercises. My discharge on the Friday afternoon was efficient and arrangements made for the district nurse to visit. My one complaint was the food. The portion sizes were too big for post operative patients. I understand that the food is prepared elsewhere then steamed. I had a chicken lunch which was an enormous plateful. The potatoes were undercooked, the chicken appeared to have been reconstituted then cubed tasting of cardboard. I only had one mouthful and the rest was wasted. Following that I then had cornflakes for breakfast and ham salad for lunch on the premise that they were straightforward. The amount of food wattage must be high which of course has cost implications. There was an extensive menu but if a smaller menu was available with better quality food in more appropriate portions this would surely help with recovery.
