"Worst Hospital Experience"

I am 12 weeks pregnant, and last week I was taken to A and E with severe bleeding. Having suffered from a number of miscarriages before this was alarming. In A and E I was told to go over to the maternity unit immediately where I would receive the right care and attention, and I would get an ultrasound to check on the baby to find out whether or not I had lost the baby. Upon arriving on Branston Ward I was told I would not get a scan that night, I would have to wait at least another 12 hours but I could not leave or go home because I had to see the doctor to assess if I needed to stay in or not, but by the way there is only on doctor on duty tonight and she has to cover three floors of wards and patients. I was eventually told I had to stay in over night, but that this was a good thing because I was sure to be the first patient scanned first thing in the morning. I had ahead of me an agonising wait to find out if my baby had died or survived. The one thing keeping me going through the night was the knowledge in a few hours I would be getting my scan. I sat in bed and watched the clock waiting for 8am to come. 8am came and went, no scan. I asked a nurse what was happening, she was very uninterested and simply told me someone had forgot to put my scan card in so I would not be going for a scan any time soon. When I questioned why this has happened and why I was told otherwise it was simply shrugged off in an 'I don't really care' attitude. Eventually (after waiting for 18hours) I decided I would go down to the scanning unit myself and ask. When I said who I was they had no idea who I was or why I was there, no information had been passed on. I was eventually seen, after refusing to go back to the ward, by the sonographer in the Early Pregnancy Unit. She was by far the most rude, uncaring health professional I have ever met. Considering she is working in a sensitive environment where life and death situations are the norm, you would think she would have the ability to be sensitive to the situation and caring but no. All in all this was a horrific experience and if I can help it I will not be using United Lincolnshire Hospitals again. I am in the process of trying to move all my future maternity care to a different hospital trust and I advise all other expectant mums do the same if you want to feel cared for and that you matter, that you're not just simply another person causing inconvenience. It comes as no surprise that this trust has been placed into a special measures category.
