"visit to A and E"

About: Leighton Hospital

I have a number of very serious conditions and very closely timed medication, however medication is taken from you and then tablets etc handed out when staff see fit rather than according to time. This has caused serious and life threatening consequences, despite asking for tablets numerous times. On another occasion although eventually emergency medication was provided, it was a long time coming and again serious consequences. The time up until the doctor arrived I was treated as a very elderly Alzheimer patient, rather then someone looking at my age and thinking confusion might be a symptom. Once on the observation ward nurses and doctors very good and very helpful, however we still have the tablet timing problem. The last problem is the discharge letter - this appears to be written from imagination and that went to my consultant and GP.

I am very sorry you did not receive the standard of care we expect to deliver in the emergency department (ED). The ED team are working very hard to ensure all patients receive their medication promptly and have recently introduced a new process to address this problem. At the current time, this appears to be working well. The team also try hard to treat each patient as an individual and with respect and dignity. Again, I am sorry your experiences have not reflected this. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your concerns in more detail to understand exactly what we need to do to help you should you need to be treated in the ED again in the future. To enable this to happen, please would you contact the customer care team on 01270 612410. With Best wishes Sue Talbot-Crosby, Matron, Emergency Department
