"My mother-in-law was admitted ..."

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mother-in-law was admitted to Addenbrooke's on Christmas day after collapsing in a restaurant. Following an excellent response and service from the East of England ambulance service, the treatment she received at Addenbrooke's was excellent. The staff were kind, considerate, patient and professional during a difficult time. None had chosen to work on Christmas day but the atmosphere was business as usual with a prompt and efficient service. The toilets in A&E were about as clean as I've ever seen in a hospital - everything works by sensor to minimise infection - and generally the whole place looked well cared for.

What could be improved

Small point but as it was Christmas day all the canteens and cafes were shut. This was a shame as we were there for five hours eventually - maybe next year get volunteers (WRVS?) to come in and provide hot drinks for people who come in with A&E cases or bring in relations/friends as emergencies?

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased that your mother-in-law received such good care and that you found the hospital to be so clean. We will share your comments about the availability of refreshments with our Voluntary Services Manager and also our Estates Department to see where we can make improvements in this respect.
