About: Epsom Hospital

I attended the outpatients clinic on 16th April and after a lengthy discussion with my consultant it was decided I was prescribed medication called Movacol. I took my prescription to the pharmacy. I waited for approximately 25 mins and when my prescription was ready I proceeded to the collections point only to find when I got there a box of Laxido was waiting for me. I explained to the pharmacist that I did not want that as I have tried it before and it makes me physically sick, I also had this conversation with my consultant who suggested I tried Movacol instead. The pharmacist then said to me that Laxido contained the same ingredients as Movacol and that Movacol was for older people. He also added that Laxido was cheaper. I was upset by his comments because I felt he was trying to disgrace me into having a cheaper product, on which would have ended in the bin had I have taken it home I have paid full National Insurance contributions and taxes for 40 years plus and think that I am therefore entitled to the medication that was prescribed to me. I have used the NHS sparingly during my lifetime and I do not abuse the system. I am aware of the shortage of funds in the NHS and I am also aware why and it is not because of people like myself who have paid into the service. I was refused my medication by your Pharmacist instead he suggested I see my GP. So now I need to book an appointment with my GP and take up his time and also an appointment that would best serve somebody else just because your pharmacist refused me the medication I was prescribed on the grounds that Laxido was cheaper. How does that make it cheaper. I bitterly object to his comments and would suggest he keeps his cost cutting advice to others and not someone like me who has worked and is still working at 61, and have paid into the system all my life. As said previously, the matter of the right medication was discussed with my consultant and I am unable to take Laxido as it makes me sick. Why should I have to discuss this with your pharmacist I do not know. Please can you let me know why I was refused the medication the consultant prescribed for me. Thanks
