My second labour at LGH and a complete contrast to my previous experience. The midwives were excellent and listened to your opinions and feelings yet concentrated on the best outcome for you and your baby. I had a shift change which did not create any issues the handover was carried out without issue and both midwives were amazing. I cannot thank them enough for their support. I could not have maintained my mental strength throughout the birth and induction for augmentation, with only my TENS machine for pain relief without their continued and unwavering support and excellent care. They not only achieved a great labour for me but a saving on resources and cost for the NHS. The ward and rooms were clean, they may be needing a facelift but I would rather have the great care I received and money spent on equipment than a pretty wall and curtain! A student midwife who also assisted was great too and continued to be after the birth she will go on to make a fine midwife when qualified. I do have to emphasise this is in stark contrast to my previous birth here in 2011 when I felt the labour ward was understaffed, I felt rushed, my views were ignored by those overseeing the midwives, I had more midwife changes than I could count (they were however still good just under extreme pressure) the issues seemed to be the management of the ward rather than the staff. Both my husband and I said it was like a different hospital in 2014. Whatever improvements have been made, they have clearly been for the benefit of the staff on the ward and those labouring - thank you as you have helped improve my memories of labour which means more than you can imagine.
"So much improvement a fantastic experience"
