I was very impressed with my treatment at Queen’s Hospital. I had an abdominal hysterectomy two weeks ago and the treatment and care I received were excellent. Whilst waiting for the operation, the senior registrar, the anaesthetist and the junior doctor all came down to introduce themselves to me and to make sure I fully understood the operation that I was about to undertake. In the operating theatre I was introduced to other members of the operating staff and they made me feel totally at ease when they put me to sleep. I was transferred to Cornflower B ward, and was looked after really well by all the staff. Everyone was really friendly and my calls for assistance were answered very quickly. The senior registrar saw me on the evening of my operation and told me how things went. He also checked in on me regularly until he discharged me on the third day. I was also seen by the ward consultant, the physiotherapist, and the pain management team. As I was on the enhanced recovery programme, I was assigned a nurse upon who I could call if I had any problems when I got home. She introduced herself to me prior to the operation and visited me on the ward. She also called me at home about a week after my operation to see how I was doing. I honestly believe I could not have had a better experience and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in my care from the senior registrar to the nurses and not forgetting the healthcare assistants and the ladies who made me coffee and toast – thank you.
