Sadly my elderly parent is in Fairoak ward after a stroke. There is a serious lack of communication on all levels. Family are not informed nor kept up-to-date about patients progress or lack of and any decision-making taken by senior sister or Consultant. Generally, the nursing/care staff are very average (unable to answer questions) Their response is I will go and find a doctor or nurse, 9 out of 10 times they never arrive! Rehab depends on patient, if you are considered worth having rehab the therapy staff are more approachable and committed. Sadly, if a patient is less able they seem not to bother with them and use excuses, such as the patient is too tired! (Very poor). It is very important that you arrange a meeting with the consultant to ask questions that other staff can't answer or have been instructed not to answer. I found that very informative and discovered there are many decisions that are taken without consent from family. It is basically very much like a conveyor belt, minimum care then they dump you in a nursing home.
