I was admitted after a SELDOC doctor called an ambulance on the basis of a phone consultation. Although the paramedic who arrived first was grumpy and sceptical, and told me I should have got a cab (and criticised the doctor for calling the ambulance), the ambulance crew who arrived within a few minutes were reassuring and helpful. From that moment I felt in safe professional hands, throughout my time at Kings. A & E looked after me well, then I was transferred to Lister ward for surgery. The staff in Lister ward were uniformly excellent. I was operated on within 12 hours of arriving, and the surgery saved my life. My surgeon was reassuring and informative both before and after the operation. The nurses of Lister ward were wonderful and kind during the following couple of days, until I was well enough to go home. As a 42 year old in otherwise fine health, whose only other contact with hospitals has been the trouble free birth of my three children, I was amazed at the quality of the healthcare which was available to me within hours of my need. I hope I don't need any further medical assistance for the next 42 years, but it is reassuring to know you are there, and are so good at what you all do. Thanks, Greville
