"I was seen to fairly speedily, ..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was seen to fairly speedily, all staff I encountered were polite and all things I needed to know were fully explained to me (where to go, what to do).

I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff, I couldn't have been in better company.

I got a full examination of my shoulder and then an x-ray very quickly and the results came back to me very quickly too.

I got some good advice on how to manage the pain etc and some not-so-useful advice on re-abilitating the movement in my shoulder.

The problem is the diagnosis was wrong - I had to go back to my GP 4 weeks later (after suffering considerable pain in that time) to get a correct diagnosis and treatment plan.

Conclusion - all the ingredients are there at the MRI to make a monumentally first rate hospital, what let them down is that patients are being processed through the system at an alarming rate and more time is needed (in my case at least) to actually get things right and make a quality difference to peoples lives - and that's a shame.

501 patients have been seen in one day by one member of staff at the A&E dept - this women is first rate (I have every respect for her) but that sort of volume is just too much.

What could be improved

I say staff the hospital properly and give better treatment!!!

Anything else?

The staff are brilliant but the management of this hospital are running it like a poorly managed business - that is just not on - it's our health system - not theirs!!!!!!
