"Day Surgery - arthroscopy"

About: The Great Western Hospital

I arrived at 8am on the day of surgery, extremely nervous of what lay ahead. I was having a general anaesthetic for an arthroscopy. As no-one except the patient is allowed in the Theatre waiting area, it seemed a long and lonely wait but, the anaethetist came and explained what would happen, then someone from the surgical team came to explain exactly what he intended to do. I then felt very calm & reassured. All the staff involved spoke to me and answered any concerns. Nurses in the waiting area regularly asked if I was ok. I went off to sleep assured that I was in the best hands and woke in very little pain. In the recovery unit, a nurse made regular checks on me. Almost three weeks on, and doing the exercises as prescribed, my knee is doing very well indeed. I cannot thank the whole team enough for fixing my knee as I do a lot of Field work and being mobile is essential. Unfortunately, you haven't seen the last of me as I injured the other knee in an almost identical manner on the 1st April and have an outpatients appt in 2 weeks. Rosemary Ray

Many thanks for your comments and for sharing the positive experience you had with Orthopaedics. I'll make sure that the team are given a copy. Hope all goes well with your outpatient appointment in a couple of weeks.
