"Gastroscopy at Rotherham District General"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Last month, I had a gastroscopy at the Rotherham District General hospital, as it was suspected that I had stomach ulcers and gall stones.

All appointments and tests were completed well within one month of visiting the doctor. Two appointments were in the evening and one was on a sunday. It is nice to see that the equipment is being used more and not laying idle at weekends.

My gastroscopy appointment was scheduled for 18:20, but it was not until 21:00 before I left the clinic. This seems like a long time to me, though I gather that this is not unusual after listening to other people speak about it.

Thank you for taking the time to post your opinion on this website. I am pleased that your appointments and tests were completed in a timely manner and do hope you have made a good recovery.

I am sorry however to read of your concern regarding the amount of time you were waiting in the Endoscopy department. Whilst it is difficult to comment on the circumstances in the department at the time of your attendance without further details, I have been advised that due to the nature of the procedures in Endoscopy, lists can be altered at short notice due to emergency patients or procedures taking longer than anticipated. This should have been explained to you when making the appointment however and I am very sorry if you were not informed of this or kept updated whilst you were waiting in the department.

Thank you once again for your post.
