"Lucky to have such a great emergency department."

About: Hexham General Hospital

I just wanted to write to say how lucky we are in Hexham to have such a fabulous emergency department, (although I would prefer not to visit again!) I had to take my 15 month old in in December when he had a febrile convulsion. From the second we walked into the hospital he was looked after so well, particularly by the reassuring, calm and incredible doctor and nurse on duty that day. I was again impressed by the fantastic efficiency and friendliness of all the staff, from receptionist, nurses and doctor we saw today looking after my 5 year old following a deep cut to his chin. He was just very pleased with the lolly and sticker he got for being brave! Thank you to everyone who works there.

Response from Hexham General Hospital

Dear Sir / Madam, Thank you so much for this fantastic endorsement of Hexham hospital and the care you and your family received there. I am aware of how frightening it can be to witness a baby experience febrile convulsions. The kindness, helpfulness and professional attention that you describe in your letter is exactly what we’d want every one of our patients to receive, every day, across all of our hospitals and community services. We are very proud of our teams and their commitment to provide the best possible care at all times and we are also very grateful when patients and families take the time to give us feedback. It gives us the opportunity to pay a lot of attention to what really matters ....for five year olds that includes lollies and stickers for brave behaviour ! Like you, I hope you have no reason to visit us again soon but delighted that our service gave you the right sort of care when you needed it. With all best wishes for 2014, Annie
