"Portland Ward - First Class"

I was taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital following an accident at work on the 19th March 2014. I had severe fractures to my left ankle. The ambulance came promptly despite my accident occurring in a remote spot. The ambulance staff were efficient and comforting and following admittance to the Accident and Emergency I was admitted to the Portland Ward. From the start both the nursing and health care staff were caring, patient and efficient with myself and the other patients in my bay, Some of these patients were very elderly, confused and in very poor heath. I was very impressed with how the staff dealt with these patients, always respecting their dignity and needs. I remained on Portland Ward for almost two weeks and required two operations. I have nothing but admiration for the staff on this ward. They all had a great sense of humour and made my stay as comfortable as possible, Housekeeping staff also were cheerful and caring. I must make comments on the brilliant attitude of the student nurses, these young ladies are a credit to the NHS and will make first class nurses, one nurse dealt with my admission, and throughout my stay always checked how I was progressing, I was very impressed with her dedication, work ethic and professional demeanour - especially in one so young. Special mention also for the excellent way the health care assistants dealt with the often difficult and more distasteful duties - always putting the comfort and dignity of their patients first. Two members of staff were also very entertaining and kept our spirits up, Nurses on the ward were brilliant, professional and worked to very high standards despite being obviously very busy. I cannot express how highly I rate the staff on this ward. A very big thank you to you all!!!! Kevin Revell
