"I was referred to the Cardiac ..."

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was referred to the Cardiac Investigations Unit for a check on my heart by my GP - No appointment was needed and on handing my doctors note to the receptionist was shown to a clean consulting room where a nurse performed my ECG. The nurse took time to ask me about my symptoms and was very kind in reassuring me. I was told there might be an irregularity on my ecg and that i should wait and see a doctor. After almost 1 hour of waiting and 2 cups of tea I saw a Cadiologist who explained my irregular heart beat, but got called away to another problem. The nurse gave me my test results and a letter for my GP recommending treatment. He gave me good advice on irregular heart beats and of the different treatments, of which my GP has now referred to a specialist clinic back at St George's!!!! Going back to my GP I was amazed that a technician had already spoken to my GP and my GP was expecting me.....I am now taking medications to control my heart beat and waiting to go back to St George's for further treatment

What could be improved

The doctor seemed very rushed and gave all the instructions to the nurse not me. - but i realise i did not have an appointment so accepted i would need to wait.

The nurse clearly knew what my ecg test showed but was hesitant to discuss the results until after the doctor had arrived - this was a worrying 1 hour.

The car parking was very expensive, and doesn't seem fair as waiting for a cardiologist to come and see me ended up costing me more money in parking fees, although this was not my fault!!! How can this be justified?
