"The A&E staff were amazing, ..."

About: Dorset County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The A&E staff were amazing, as were the nurses in the discharge loungs, just a shame about everybody else inbetween

What could be improved

There was clearly no procedure in place for dealing with emergency patients that were subsequently transferred to wards. I was ignored most of the time. No communiction between doctors and nurses. I didnt feel 'cared for' at any time. Everybody was too busy to deal with me. I was made to feel guilty for being there taking up a valuable bed, even though i was in a lot of pain. I dont feel my pain was managed properly. The doctors talked over me rather than to me. Nobody listened. The doctors were rude and arrogant. I saw a different one everyday, there was no consistency and they clearly didnt talk to each other. Things were always recorded on my notes properly. I felt that being there meant i actually got worse. I felt neglected.

Anything else?

This was stressful time for me, made much worse by the total lack of care and sympathy by the staff. I felt that my recovery was greatly hampered by the fact that i was mostly feeling scared and alone due to very very poor communication. I am supposed to come back for more treatment but i have lost trust in the hospital and am hoping that i can go somewhere else with better facilities and more understanding of patients needs. I think the staff forget that hospital and being in a lot of pain can be an extremely scary experience for some, especially young people that havent experienced that before. All in all the whole experience was very traumatic, i am still recovering from this both physically and mentally.
