"Dont know"

About: South Tyneside District Hospital

My granddaughter came out with a rash ,she was sent to this hospital by her GP in an ambulance because they thought it could be meningitis. Bloods tests were taken, antibiotics given to her by drip, 3 days later we dont know what infection it was but it looks like bad tonsilitus. as stated by the person who phoned with the results, not once did she complain about her throat, she wasnt eating and covered in a rash. Recommend that my daughter takes her for a second opinion and avoids this hospital at all costs. Second time a member of my family has been to this hospital and sent home with the answer we dont know, the first time we ended up in intensive care and on life support for 5 days.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on the NHS Choices website regarding your recent experience of our services. I am truly sorry your granddaughter’s experience of our services was not of our usual high standard. From your comments it would appear there was a breakdown in communications and by copying in the respective managers, I will ask them to discuss this with the relevant teams and reflect on how we communicate with patients effectively. I sincerely hope your granddaughter is making a speedy recovery back to full health. Kind regards Lorraine B Lambert Chief Executive
