"Maternity ward"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

I write this email with concern. My daughter gave birth to a beautiful baby boy no thanks at all to your maternity ward in Durham ,she started with pains 9pm Sunday 30th & arrived at the ward 1.30am to be examined & told to go home as she wasn't dilated enough she then went back at 6am for another check & she was only 3cm dilated again she was turned away & told to go home, bare in mind all this time she was in extreme pain, her partner & myself so helpless & concerned. mid morning she had a show & was still in terrible pain her partner rang the ward to let them know, they wanted to know how much pain she was in (she was told the pain should make her cry before she got back in touch with the ward) this is absolutely crazy! I then rang the ward back & stressed that she needed some pain relief & that I wanted to bring her in as she was getting quite stressed I was told to hold & when the nurse came back on the phone told me we would have to transfer to Darlington as the decision had been made not to take anymore patients.we went to Darlington & when my daughter was examined she was 5cm dilated what a relief that she was getting the care she deserved. I do feel that as this was my daughters first baby & that she was in a lot of pain she could have been kept in & cared for at the end of all of her labor she had to have an emergency c section. if this experience hasn't put her off & should she decide on another baby in the future I would urge her to consider which hospital to care for her.
