"A and E Children"

About: Newham General Hospital

Went into A & E with a ill 2 year old child on the weekend. Was informed we needed to wait in the Urgent care area with adults and others waiting for A&E in the Urgent care area. Horrendous waiting area, terrible for a ill child. Why not have a separate area in A & E for children? Angry doctors with nurses using rubber gloves to write notes on-like BP and tempereture-very amateurish. Overall a horrible experience with no sympathy or care. Appalling standard of care with professionals who seemed they would rather be at home that weekend. Glad when we got out of the cesspit that was guised as a A & E dept.

The Urgent care Centre is provided by East London NHS Foundation Trust. We contacted them and they have asked us to post the following information: We are very concerned to hear that you had such a difficult experience in the Urgent Care Centre. It is correct that there is no children’s waiting area in the department which we are unhappy about. We have had plans drawn up and agreed, and a building company has been contracted to create a separate area for children to wait to be seen. This work is scheduled to take place in the next fortnight with an anticipated build time of one week. We will address the matter of staff attitude with the staff immediately and would welcome contact with you with the aim of offering reassurance and to hear in more detail what happened. Once again, we are extremely sorry that you and your child had such a distressing experience. You can call on our Freephone number: 0800 783 4839.
