"Outpatients Appointments"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

It appears that the Out Patients appointments at Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals are in crisis. My gp referred me and I was given an outpatient appt. 4 weeks later which I thought was pretty good. This was then cancelled by the hospital the day before I was due to attend. Two weeks later I was sent a further appt for six weeks time, when I will be away. On contacting the hospital I was informed that I could have no further appts as I had previously cancelled one although it was they who had cancelled! On disputing this was informed that no further appt could be given at this time as there weren't any! This is not an isolated incident as has happened to my husband regularly who has prostate cancer and to many friends of mine. The care at the hospital is very good once one is able to access it, but they are clearly over stretched, and I hope that delays encountered are not causing lives to be put at risk. (Have had to fill in box stating when attended, but haven't as still waiting!)
