"Surgery cancelled with no feedback or proper..."

About: Basildon University Hospital

Where do I begin with this hospital? No two people can give you the same information and no one seems to know what is going on. You just get the impression you are just another number coming in through the door and they just want to ship you through the doors as quickly as possible. I was booked in surgery but it was cancelled because I tested positive for MRSA, after months of treatment I was cleared for surgery, I called twice to confirm this and was told to come. Yesterday the nurse who was checking me for Pre-surgery looks at my file and starts asking when I came in for Pre-assessment and did I have a swab done (this was the same nurse who did the Pre-assessment and took the samples btw) more swabs were taken and four hours later I was asked to leave because the procedure had been cancelled. Apparently I needed 3 clear test results done weekly before I could be cleared for surgery. All the people I spoke to including the nurse did not know this. No further information was given to me as of the time I left the day unit although I was offered tea and asked if they could call me a cab. The only reason why I know it's three swabs was because I went to PALS where a nice but slightly condescending lady demonstrated how I should wash my hands to avoid infection. She made booking me in further tests sound like a huge favour she was going out of her way to do for me. Well I don't want favours. I had more than enough time to be booked in for these swabs or could have gone to my GP from the date of my pre assessment to yesterday. And my having MRSA cannot only be because i am a filthy person with poor hygiene which is what this woman was implying, i have no symptons and my partner has been tested twice and is not infected. If i was such a pig wouldn't have infected the person closest to me? A mistake that has caused me anxiety and emotional distress was made and yet i was made to feel small and insignificant by someone who was supposed to help. Finding out you have this hideous bacteria is traumatic enough and believe me I have scrubbed and sanitized and wiped and personally berated myself for having it, being given a lesson in hand washing was not what I needed at that time. The nurse who asked me to leave discussed me (referring to me to my hearing as the patient in 11) openly with another nurse as they wondered how to tell me my surgery has been cancelled. I am now too scared to have my procedure done in a hospital where the staff are either inept or attempt to bully you and in all cases lack professional courtesy .I will book appointments with my GP to make sure I have the three or two extra swabs then I will move my treatment to another hospital. My advice to anyone who is unfortunate enough to be treated here is, always take down the name and unit of anyone you speak with, re-clarify and re-confirmation any information you are given before you end a conversation and pray!
