"admission to A&E with injured elbow"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

At approx 4.30 pm I entered the A&E dept with a very painfull right elbow injury. At 8 pm I was attended by the doctor (very satisfied) who immediately decided I needed an x ray. This was completed within the next 15 mins by the technician (very satisfied) I then had to chase up getting seen again and it took until 11.45 pm before the x ray was located, and I saw a doctor (satisfied) for the second time, to confirm a fracture of the elbow. I was then given some tablets for pain management. I finally left A&E at about 12.30, after 8 hours of pain. During this time I saw many people admitted later than me, be dealt with and to leave having received treatment while I was still waiting for the x ray to return. I had to request the admissions clerk (satisfied) to find out where my x ray had got to and why the delay in my being seen by a doctor. Allthough all the individuals we dealt with were considerate and helpfull, the organisation and effectiveness of the process left a lot to be desired. An effective triage was completely missing, as was a definite method of co ordinating different facilities. Allthough the general areas I saw appeared clean, the toilets left a huge amount to be desired.

Dear Ms Mason Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your visit to A&E at Wexham Park Hospital. I am sorry for the delay that you encountered after the return from Xray. I have passed your comments onto Dr Nick Jenkins, Consultant for Emergency Medicine so he can look into why there was delay, and learn from your experience. I'm glad that you found the general areas to be clean, and I will pass on your comments to the Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities regarding the toilets. It is also good to have positive feedback on your interactions with our staff and I will ensure this is fed back to both the A&E team and the Radiology department. Kind Regards Claire Marshall Associate Director of Patient Experience and Public Involvement
