"Compassionate, family-centred care"

About: John Eastwood Hospice, in care

(as a relative),

When my wife was diagnosed with cancer the whole family was devastated. There was a hope that an operation could remove the cancer but, sadly, it had progressed too far and it proved impossible to remove. The clinical team suggested she be moved to in-care at the John Eastwood Hospice. We did not know the hospice and feared that it would be a very sad place.

How wrong we were! The hospice is a purpose-built, attractive, bright, clean and cheerful place where the caring attitude is tangible. Dr Finn is an inspirational and patient-focussed leader of a dedicated and sensitive professional clinical team and the many voluntary staff support and also help to create the warm and inclusive atmosphere which pervades all activities.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were always willing to suggest and discuss changes to the medication, the food (which is always of high quality) or the immediate environment of the actual bed space. Throughout, the whole family felt involved in and supported by the compassionate care provided. We will be forever grateful to the hospice team for the quality of life and dignity and for the excellent medical treatment which my darling wife received during her final days to relieve her from her pain and suffering.

Response from Nottinghamshire Healthcare

Thank you so much for these kind words they are very much appreciated. The team here at John Eastwood Hospice strive to ensure patient and family centred care and remove, as much as possible, fear associated with the word ‘hospice’ by creating a sensitive but cheerful caring atmosphere.

As you clearly show it is the ‘whole team approach ‘ that is important in providing compassionate care and I am pleased that we were able to provide you, your wife and family with the support you needed at such a sad time.

I will pass you patient story onto the team – and wish to thank you and your family once more for taking the time to write this.
