"Feedback about Rowan and Redwood wards"

About: Adult mental health

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was a service user on both Rowan and Redwood wards. I feel really strongly that patients should have protected time with nurses.

If a psychologist/psychiatrist goes on holiday, ward rounds should not stop. There could be patients who are ready to move on or progress, but don't because decisions can't be made in the absence of the person on holiday.

It would be nice to know a bit more about the staff/nurses - it makes them human and helps you to get to know them and trust them.

Could psychiatrists/psychologists be available over the internet maybe? Because the thing is, you can't plan when you're going to need them.

Response from Jo Horsley, Adult Mental Health Service Manager - Acute services, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

Thank you for taking time to post your views regarding your experiences on Rowan and Redwood. You make very important points that I think we need to prioritise. You are quite right that patients should receive protected time with the nurses and ward rounds should be regular and we should have systems in place that enables reviews to take place regardless of annual leave or sickness. I will speak to the Highbury managers and senior consultants about your comments. In the meantime would you like to meet up to discuss your experiences in more detail so that I can ensure we address the necessary improvements? If you would prefer to discuss your concerns with someone outside of Adult Mental Health, Mick O’Driscoll, Deputy Divisional nurse for local services would be happy to meet with you. Please contact 01159691300 ext 14112 to make an appointment with either of us.
