"After feeling dismissed for 24 hours, this member of staff felt like an angel"

About: Warrington Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

After giving birth to my son on in June 2011, I was moved to the antenatal ward at Warrington Hospital. I struggled to breast feed (he wouldnt latch on), and despite 10 minutes of help here and there from the staff I met, and a frustrating 40 minutes with a breastfeeding peer support worker, my son had not had any milk for 24 hours after he was born. I gave up and asked the staff for milk in a bottle which he wolfed down.

At that point one of the staff (I really wish I could remember her name) noticed that he had a tongue tie which meant he could not breastfeed. After feeling like I was being dismissed and paranoid by some of the staff I met for the previous 24 hours, this one member of staff felt like an angel. She sat with me and told me about his tongue tie and told me not to feel guilty for not breastfeeding and referred him to Alder Hey to get it sorted.
