"A&E refuse to treat you if you've been to GP!!"

I've had a terrible last 8 weeks being sent to A&E in mid January with suspected appendicitis/lower abdo pain for surgical assessment. They were so busy and I left after 5 hrs of waiting without being seen. My abdo pain got a bit better during that night so didn't go back to A&E and went back to GP instead. Ever since have had serious pains and having lots of investigations done, but problem is still undiagnosed and is generally getting worse. My GP reassured me that if things ever became unbearable or worse over a weekend, I could go to A&E and I would be helped. How wrong this was. Last weekend the pain was unbearable, I had already collapsed twice that morning with extreme pain. My GP surgery was closed, I had called 111 and was advised to go to A&E. It was early and there were only 3-4 patients waiting, but I still waited 3 hours to be seen by a nurse, who in turn called a doctor. After explaining that I had undiagnosed severe lower abdo pain that had got worse and the fact that I had collapsed twice that morning, the lady A&E doctor dismissed me after talking to me for only 2-3 minutes without even a proper examination - saying that I must go back to my GP and chase up a consultants appointment that way. I was really in serious trouble with my pain and totally shocked to be just turned away, with a 'hurry along your GP' I went home and took a big dose of the prescription painkillers to get me through the next few hours. I collapsed another time later that day. I have never been a burden on the NHS or A&E and at 50 years old, I have never needed their help before. I am so utterly disappointed and shocked that this once when I really needed some help, i was treated so appallingly. Someone else nearby had a mere sprained ankle, they were treated, advised, xrayed, and they received excellent service, when I was far more seriously ill and in acute/severe pain and just got turned away. If I had said nothing about my past 8 weeks tests, consultants etc., then I am sure I might have been treated. So I guess the morale of the story is - if you are ill and already seeing any consultant or having tests - don't say anything about it and you might get treated if you are lucky. Sad situation isn't it.
