About: Hull Royal Infirmary

Attended last night ( 2225hrs ) with a badly infected hand following a puncture wound caused by a thorn. Very pleased with the treatment provided but the waiting time of over three and a half hours and the apparent lack of medical staff was unacceptable when the waiting room was not particularly busy. The fact that a very drunk and abusive man with a facial injury was treated immediately on arrival was an added annoyance. I appreciate cases need to be prioritised but his wounds did not appear to merit such preferential treatment but I am not medically qualified to comment I suppose. Despite this the reception ,security and medical staff were all very professional in dealing with the patients. The doctor who treated me was absolutely bonkers but had a great personality and bed side manner which totally put me at ease and reassured me greatly as the infection was spreading through my blood stream very quickly and visibly. I was worried.

Whilst the waiting room might not appear to be very busy, the waiting room does not reflect what is actually happening behind the scenes where patients are in cubicles and resuscitation. I am sorry if you were not kept informed of the length of wait you could expect. I hope that you are now improving from your injury and wish you a speedy recovery.
