After emergency appointment with my G.P, I was sent to the G.P referral unit in A+E. As I had suffered sickness and severe headaches for 3 days, my G.P sent me with a letter stating that while this may be a severe migraine, she was not satisfied and advised that I should be given a scan to check nothing more serious was happening. After being put in a quiet dark room by a lovely doctor who saw the pain I was in, I was seen by a different doctor. No scan was discussed and I was given, in the doctor's words, a 'cocktail' of medicines for a migraine. These were tablets I had already been given by my G.P the previous day and had had no effect. I was told if my pain did not improve, I would not be discharged. No one checked on me for 4 hours and only then at the request of my mother as my pain had not improved at all. While waiting for a doctor after this, I collapsed near the bathroom with complete numbness on my right side and could not speak. This attack to be fair was very quick and had subsided when nurses returned who refused to accept anything had happened and insisted I put myself on the floor. After then being discharged the same day, I had to be taken by ambulance to Salford Royal on the advise of the paramedics where I continued to suffer from the same symptoms, building to a full seizure, and was diagnosed with blood clots on the brain. I have later discovered it is policy to offer a CT scan to people suffering from severe headaches for 3 days or more where pain relief has no effect. I have been advised, by medical personnel, that I recieved 'horrendous medical care' while at Bolton. If suffering similar symptoms, insist on a scan as it is the only way to be sure your headaches are nothin more than just headaches.
