"Labour and after care"

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital

Iam very disappointed about my experience at queen charlottes hospital. I had my first baby at west Middlesex hospital and was very happy with my care there. At my 5 month scan my baby's left side of the heart was smaller then the right so I was transferred to QCH. I had no choice . My care with the fetal care unit was great but during my labour I was not happy. Before I had the baby I was told I would have 2 people with me but I only had one midwife who was new and it was her 1st time working at the hospital so didn't know where anything was. And I was told I could hold my baby for a few mins after they put the drip on her. The labour was very hard. On the monitor there was a dip in the lines I asked what that was the midwife said the cord is around the baby. I said is that ok she said yes it is. All I knew was that my baby had a heart condition and was going to have a operation. I was stressed about that and worried about that. When it was 4.30 in the morning she told me to turn on my side my baby's heart rate was dropping then she asked me to go on the other side. At this point I was stiff and couldn't move I only had gas and air. She panicked and rang the bell and 6 people ran in to the room. I turned and my baby's head popped out in one push she was out but her cord was rapped round her body and 3 times round her neck. At this point was was so distressed the doctors put a drip on my baby and didn't let me hold her and took her upstairs. Then 3 hours later the midwife came to me and said your baby gas gone. I said where she said Brompton. At this point I was so angry they took my baby and I didn't even get to see her or hold her before she went. All I knew was my baby had a heart condition and was going to have a operation. I was taken to the ward and was forgotten about. I wasn't checked or anything. No one from upstairs came to even see me and tell me how my baby was or anything. I fell asleep and when I got up I asked when I was going home. The reply I got was oh you want to go home do you. Yes my baby is in brompton. They said ok let me ask. At this point I was fuming I was told after 4 hours I could go to my baby. They discharged me at 7pm in the evening they didn't even arrange transport for me I couldn't even go to brompton at that time I had to see and hold my baby the next afternoon. There is plenty more I need to say but I'm going to put in writing to the hospital. To top all this off. I was discharged from brompton on the 8th march so I rang up QCH to ask which midwife would come and see me so I was told to ring the hospital where I delived. They said I wasn't on the computer and the lady was rude. I told them what happened and that we were discharged from brompton on the 8th. They faxed a letter to Ealing midwifes and said I was still in brompton. This is the worst hospital and will not recommend it to anyone.
