"cohesion, dignity, availability of staff"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

My mother has now been on a ward for 7 days, following an emergency admission. NBM, yet continually asked whether she wants drinks! No drip in place for over 12 hours on one day due to mis-communication! During one visit we complained as my mother requested to use toilet (not mobile) and we were originally told "she is wearing a pad let her use that" - reluctantly a bed pan and support was provided which was used. My mother (ok the drugs she is on can lead to a little confusion) informed me that this had happened on more than one occassion - I can appreciate what appears to be a staff shortage, but blunt attitude and blank expression coupled with what I deem to be a lack of consideration and respect for an individual is not acceptable. Funnily enough, after this incident we saw the ward sister for the first time in 7 days who informed us that there were too many people during the visit - could not see anywhere on this ward, nor anywhere exiting the hospital any notices stating maximum visitors per bed. If I have missed it I apologise. I think we may be in for some time to come so we will be monitoring very carefully. (I will also add that this attitude is not apparent in all members of staff)

Dear Anonymous Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share your feedback about your mother's care. Now, this certainly does not sound like the standard of care we aim to offer every patient every time in the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. I would strongly encourage you to speak to the ward manager about your concerns, or if you need further advice and support in this then our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is here to help. PALS is located near the main entrance at the hospital or can be contacted via email at pals@sath.nhs.uk or by phone on 01952 282888. More information about PALS is available from our website at http://www.sath.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/pals Our only role is to provide care and treatment for our patients, and support for their families. So, we are really keen to learn from your experiences and make changes that benefit you and your mother. Thanks again for contacting us, and please accept my apologies that the NHS Choices website does not share your contact details with us and as a result we are not able to contact you direct.
