My mother has now been on a ward for 7 days, following an emergency admission. NBM, yet continually asked whether she wants drinks! No drip in place for over 12 hours on one day due to mis-communication! During one visit we complained as my mother requested to use toilet (not mobile) and we were originally told "she is wearing a pad let her use that" - reluctantly a bed pan and support was provided which was used. My mother (ok the drugs she is on can lead to a little confusion) informed me that this had happened on more than one occassion - I can appreciate what appears to be a staff shortage, but blunt attitude and blank expression coupled with what I deem to be a lack of consideration and respect for an individual is not acceptable. Funnily enough, after this incident we saw the ward sister for the first time in 7 days who informed us that there were too many people during the visit - could not see anywhere on this ward, nor anywhere exiting the hospital any notices stating maximum visitors per bed. If I have missed it I apologise. I think we may be in for some time to come so we will be monitoring very carefully. (I will also add that this attitude is not apparent in all members of staff)
