"Intensive care stay, HDU and ward due to sepsis. Top quality treatment."

I was admitted in August via A&E with sepsis. Treatment was fast, and many samples taken to identify the root cause of the septicaemia. I was treated for serious hypotension and acute kidney injury, then moved up to ITU in the new Hope building.

The ITU was clean, friendly and peaceful. After a few days I was moved to High dependency for another few days, where care was as good as it gets. Hospital food has definitely improved! Matron Giftie on the Unit was superb, running the floor well as well as performing nursing duties.

From there I was moved to H2 ward. That's another excellent department, and I was treated efficiently and made a remarkably fast recovery whilst being treated for the infection the tests had pinpointed.

All through the stay I cannot fault the standards of care, but remain a little concerned at the understaffing on H2 at times (especially at night). Staff were working extremely hard but there needed to be more of them, as an emergency could easily have left the ward struggling at times. Good nurses (there were plenty on H2) should not be overworked.
