"Neuropathy"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

Diagnosed in March with possible Neuropathy, had MRI scan in March this year but not any further forward.

Initial MRI scan last year, I waited over 1 hour and no response to why I was waiting for so long, hence I had to leave and head home not very comfortable sitting with this condition, feeling ill.

As stated I have had MRI scan but looks as if I will have to wait another 2 months approximately to find out about results.

Have enquired regarding medication, the painkillers and amitriptyline are not working, have came up against a brick wall of silence, that includes my own surgery too.

Not impressed by the lack of explanation or how to deal with this condition, feel like throwing in the towel.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback regarding your recent experience within the Radiology Department in Ninewells. Your opinion is very valuable to us as it can help us shape and improve our future services.

This is not the standard of care we would aspire to provide in NHS Tayside for any of our patients.

We work hard to try and prevent waits within the department and when this is not possible we would try to explain why.

Within the Radiology Department we provide results to the referring doctor within five working days. This is a standard that we measure against and perform highly.

We would like to look into this matter further for you to ensure you get your results as quickly as possible and so we would be grateful if you would get in touch with us to provide us with your details on feedback.tayside@nhs.net.

Update posted by MrLeo59 (the patient)

The original diagnosis was in March 2013, I saw my G.P.then was seen by consultant.

MRI appointment was made waited over 1 hour, but due to my current conditions and medication and fact I was caring for my late mother I left, rather than wait any longer. My surgery didn't question what happened.

I therefore contacted my doctor again and was seen in March 2014 again. This time the MRI scan was fine very good at radiology, no waiting, but now have to wait until May 2014 to find out the problem.

As I said no-one has answered my questions on medication. I told all doctors tramadol and paracetamols do not work same for amitriptyline.

So bear in mind 1 year no treatment other than MRI. Have had bad experiences with NHS Tayside with wrong diagnosis and also NHS 24, GP didn't pickup pneumonia, off work 15 weeks, was diagnosed labyrinthine problem waited 5 months to be seen at audiology, found out was not labyrinthitis, was a nystagmus, had to leave my job and still never once has there been any outcome to this condition. 2 Times later pneumonia struck again had to drive at 2.30am to hospital 11 miles away, when I mentioned blood the GP said more from coughing fact is I had this as a baby and she had no knowledge of this and I know my body better than her.

So after all this I am very wary and apprehensive about any hospital or treatment.

Anyway thanks all the same for replies but I will wait, no point in contacting anyone as the time limit has been set for around May to be seen again at hospital.
