"Physio department"

About: Chippenham Community Hospital

I have visited the physio twice for my wife's treatment. She is pregnant, and during our first visit could barely walk. The physiotherapist didn't do any treatment at all. She suggested various options, ranging from paracetamol to a TENS machine. The appointment ended with my wife being given crutches and essentially being told to get on with it. We drove directly to a private physiotherapist and osteopath and started proper treatment. After four or five private sessions, my wife was much better, able to walk well with a single crutch and carry out day to day tasks. Then came the NHS follow up appointment. We arrived on the time stated in the text message, to be told to return tomorrow. The receptionist then politely talked loudly at my wife, in that funny way that assumes that those of us for whom English is not our first language must be deaf. I chuckled as receptionist said ' oh, you're just a follow up' and assured my wife that outside of the NHS she is a human being. The appointment was terrible. The physio patronised the effective treatment that we had been on, suggested the paracetamol again and then proceeded to push and prod my wife until the point that she was almost crying. Some pain is tolerable in the course of treatment, but this was just diagnostics and she told us at the end that indeed, there is some pain. To recover, we visited the private physio again, and the difference in treatment was incredible. He assessed professionally and carried out exercises which cause some initial pain and then help. Essentially, if you want to be told 'don't worry, I'm sure it will get better', visit Chippenham Physio department. If you want proper treatment, go somewhere else.
