"Lack of information about operation & aftercare."

About: Rivers Hospital

I had a operation on Monday . I wasn't sent any information about the procedure even though I was told I would be. After my operation in the recovery room , I experienced a few side effects from the anaesthetic. I was getting the shakes & was cold. Although I was well cared for I felt both the nurses both male & female were very cold & unsympathetic. I felt they just wanted to just get rid of me so they could go home. There was also a disagreement with the male nurse & another very friendly nurse. I felt the male nurse was very rude to her infront of me not to mention unprofessional. As my mouth was very dry I kept asking for water, although she said don't drink too much as it could make you sick. At one point I asked again and was told no abruptly. Eventually I went to my room where the nurses were much more pleasent and nothing seemed too much. I met with the surgeon before the operation and after. He has always been very nice and polite , however some of the information he gave me was quite different from the information the nurse gave me. He said I would need antibiotics for a week and I would be fine to go for walks within a couple of days. When leaving I asked the nurse some questions about things I could and couldn't do. I was told I wouldn't be able to walk properly for a week or two. I was told not to drive for 3-4 weeks. I was also told not to bend or lift heavy items. Briefly before the operation a student nurse asked me if I new what I was having done. I said I looked online but told her the hospital didn't give me any information. She gave me a couple of papers to read briefly then took them away. Overall I was treated well, but I feel I should of been given more information before the operation and after. Also I feel the nurses in recovery could be a bit more friendly and pleasent. I'm sure they are not all like that as there was a lovely cheerful nurse dealing with another patient. I just feel a bit let down and not very informed.
