Having experienced Weston Park as a visitor of a close relative I have to say a few words both in relation to the environment and the care.
First the environment - for location it's probably one of the worst I've ever had to endure - as one of a few specialist cancer hospitals you would really hope that at some point resources can be found to create a much more accessible facility for the region.
The quality of care was reasonable however what was of concern to me was both the seeming level of disregard for patients general psychological wellbeing. Over a period of 4 weeks admission never at any time was there any offer of support to spend time anywhere other than the ward - I think they really have to consider ramping up volunteer support arrangements if paid staff have no time to offer broader wellbeing support.
Times are hard in most public sector bodies but has the heart gone out of the NHS?
"can they consider ramping up volunteer support?"
