"Minor head injury -paediatric A&E"

About: Lister Hospital

My son was brought into the paediatric A&E by ambulance after hitting his head in a sporting accident. From the transfer from the paramedics right through to discharge 7 hours later we were kept fully informed of their clinical assessment, results and next steps. They took prompt action when I expressed concern about my son's level of confusion, and treated my son and my husband and me with kindness and respect all evening. Despite being a large teenager in a department full of babies ( with very anxious parents) the staff interacted with my son at exactly the right level - recognising that he was frightened and vulnerable despite the adult appearance. Although we overheard that they were two staff members down, the nurses and doctors maintained very cheerful and composed throughout an extremely busy shift. I really was impressed and very grateful for the level of care we received. Thank you! The only criticism was the lack of working vending machines throughout the hospital.
