Was referred by my physio, Siobhan, to the pilot Pilates scheme, run by Kate. Cannot praise both of them highly enough. I have had a long term back problem, and although I still have symptoms, feel more positive that someday I can overcome the pain through strengthening my core.
My only criticism is that the course of 5 weeks is too short. I would willingly pay to continue the class, and that there were no handouts given. I have a very poor memory, so couldn’t exercise at home much as there was a fear of doing the wrong thing.
I think for me, finding a good beginner level class with a physio, rather than a gym instructor running it, will be my way forward. I did buy a beginner Pilates DVD but it was way too advanced for me. Could a video be made, especially for severe back sufferers? Or look into getting around copyright rules and provide handouts?
Either that or look into running a maintenance scheme for those of us that did benefit from being in a class environment – a lot of people would pay I’m sure.
Apart from a few appointment mix-ups the MCAS scheme at St Helens runs very well.
