"Operation cancelled"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

I was extremely disappointed with the care and attention I received whilst on Jasmine ward. I am 35 yrs old and have young children. My partner works in the Middle East and can only return to the uk 4 times per year. I was diagnosed with micro invasive carcinoma in 2 areas of my cervix in 2010. Although my consultant was very good all other staff I have found to be unhelpful, condescending and pompous. However, I had undergone surgery and I am cancer free, although my surgeon had recommended I have a hysterectomy to prevent the cancer reoccurring. I also have a moderate to severe prolapse which has left me with excruciatingly painful bladder stones and constant bladder infections. It was decided that I should undergo a full hysterectomy with a prolapse repair. I had arranged for my partner to take 4 weeks off work (unpaid) to help look after me and the children,I took 4 works off work and cancelled my own clients (as I'm self employed) we had arranged fory parents to take time off to help out also. I was on jasmine ward and had been prepped for theatre and had been waiting 5 hours for my operation only to be told that it had been cancelled as the previous patient before me had taken too long and they ran out of time. I could not believe it! The most important thing for me was that I had made all the logistical arrangements necessary and those could not be altered. I was offered another date 3 weeks later that would mean that my partner would be going back to the Middle East and I'd have no other help. Absolutely disgusting. The most distressing part of the whole saga is that my consultant was well aware of the circumstances and we had arranged the dates together purposely for that reason. Now I am left without having had my surgery, which has left me in constant discomfort with my prolapse and also with the psychological worry of the cancer returning. Since the cancellation I have contacted the hospital numerous times to see if there was anything that could be done to speed up the process but no one has returned my calls or pleas for help. I have since been at the local GPs practice with terrible bladder stones and water infections I am at the end of how much I can take. This is an absolute disgrace and I have never felt so let down in my life and I used to be a nurse working in theatre!
