"maternity care "

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I had my son in early September 2013. I had a normal pregnancy and labour. However some issues have came to light now I am pregnant with my second child. I am no longer in the UK and I am receiving private pre natal care. Now my current obstetrician has advised that due to excessive lacerations during my delivery at RAH I can no longer have a normal birth and will need caesarean section for this and future deliveries.

Now at the time of my delivery the midwives were worried by my bleeding and my consultant stitched me up fine. However my issue is I had no follow up to advise me on the outcome of this and any future issues that this will cause. I was not advised at all of what exactly happened during my delivery. Also my midwife advised me throughout my pregnancy that my only option was to have a normal birth. Turns out I could have been put under consultant led care at any stage so I could have an epidural. I got this in the end after getting hysterical on the phone after 20 hours of labour.

I have now learned that this may be all due to NHS budgets and that they would let you stay in labour far too long. In my opinion the care I received was sub standard to say the least. Also when I miscarried in Nov 2012 the midwife again at RAH decided to lecture me on my timekeeping when I had called ahead to advise I was running late due to being in excessive pain. The maternity care at RAH is in my experience laughable.
