"There is no magic wand but with time and perseverance things will improve"

About: Inclusion Matters Liverpool

(as the patient),

Before going to IM I felt confused, embarrassed and like no-one understood about my condition/issues. That no-one really could help. My IM therapist gave me confidence that the above was not true, that they did understand and could help.

During my time at IM, I was shown information that really helped me understand what my problems/issues were more clearly, and gave me the techniques and tools to help me improve and move forward.

Although I realise there is no magic wand, but that if I practice the techniques, with time and perseverance things will improve and that I can move forward with confidence that I will get better.

The only concern I have is that there does not seem to be any follow-up or support for the future, should it be required.

Response from Jeanette Warner, Inclusion Matters

Dear Reader596,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and other people who may be considering taking up therapy.

It’s great to hear that after feeling that no one would understand or help you with your problems you now have the confidence to move forward. As well as this you are hopeful that with perseverance in using the tools and techniques learnt in therapy you will get better.

The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is to help you to develop skills to become your own therapist. The idea is that after therapy ends you will have a good understanding of how your problems are developed, how they are maintained and have knowledge and confidence in the use of the techniques to continue to improve. As you correctly say perseverance is the key to improvement. For this reason we do not offer follow up appointments.

However, if you do have problems in the future or need further support we do accept referrals back into the service.

If you would like to discuss this further I am more than happy for you to contact me.

Best wishes for your continued improvement.

Jeanette Warner
