"IBD and Queen Elizabeth Hospital"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I was admitted to QE Hospital, Greenwich, back in January 2008 and was very disappointed. The standard of care was terrible and I felt the nursing staff did not care about me or could be bothered.

I presented at A&E alone after consulting my GP. My issues started when I was administered Morphine without my full acknowledgment. This was quite scary as I did not know what to expect. I was later transferred to a number of wards that were terribly dirty. At the general ward, I was horrified when the toilets were not cleaned over the weekend. The bins were overflowing and the toilet was very bad. This was upsetting as I really needed to go and felt scared of going.

I was placed on Steroids and not given any patient information about them and my consent was not sought. I felt so angry as I was given a number of meds but did not know what I was taking. No explanation was given!

When I was discharged I had to contact the hospital to make a follow up appointment. Considering this was my first time on steroids I felt this was not good enough. I finally saw the SpR in June (a few months after stopping meds). I have since had a sigmoidoscopy etc and still not had a consultation regarding this. I am worried about my results and was due to see my doctor this month (Nov) but I received a letter to say this has been cancelled. What infuriates me is that no one has bothered to contact me even though I keep calling. I never manage to speak to anyone as its always an answering machine. Do they not have a specialist nurse like most other hospitals?

I have been to other hospitals previously and QE is by far the worst hospital I have dealt with. If you have IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) then I urge you not to go here. Patient choice means we can choose who we want to see.
