"Maxillofacial/Oral Surgery Waiting Times"

About: Royal Gwent Hospital / Oral Surgery

(as the patient),

I have been referred to Royal Gwent Hospital by my GP due to a large lump on the floor of my mouth and swelling in my tongue. The referral was supposedly marked urgent under a USC which according to government NICE guidelines I should be seen by a consultant within two weeks. However, I have been informed by the bookings department that this could take 8 weeks. I went back to my GP due to my condition worsening and she once again contacted the Royal Gwent who informed her I would be seen within 3 weeks.

I once again contacted the bookings department who have again told me that my appointment won't be until the end of April. A total of ten weeks from referral to just be seen by a consultant. Not really acceptable when potential outcome could be Oral Cancer.
