My husband was admitted to A&E after collapsing at work with a tightening of the chest. He has a history of blocked arteries and has heart stents. He was checked out and the consultant didn't even seem to want to come and see him. I felt he only came because I started phoning him and requesting his attendance. When he did come to see my husband he told him that he had to go on a treadmill. After 5 mins on the treadmill my husband was taken unwell again and nearly passed out. The consultant said that was good and that he could go home. Unbelievable.
We stood our ground and said that he will not be leaving this hospital until we have the treatment he needs. We were told that we will have to wait about 10 days as the waiting list is so long. During this time, my husband was out of breath whilst doing nothing but lying on the bed. He was getting worse and suffering low heart rate - it went down to 24. He was told it was because he was anxious. It beggars belief. By some miracle they have found a slot for him to have an angiogram this afternoon. If this would have been done last week it would have saved loads of time, money and stress for all concerned.
In my opinion, the NHS must get the job done asap instead of fobbing people off and trying to dodge the issue. Perhaps this is why the NHS seems to be on its' knees as if people are not treated properly in the first place they will keep coming back and taking up beds for more time than is needed. This is a heart not a big toe. Shame on you N&N.
