My sister-in-law was taken to A&E with breathlessness, she was examined and given oxygen and a nebuliser, she was then sent for a chest xray, whilst waiting for results of xray doctor came and said she would be discharged with inhalers after the xray results, we where not given any information as to what caused the breathlessness. Doctor came back and said he had the results of xray and he was very sorry but she had cancer he then showed us the xray , when I asked why the tumours hadnt been noticed on the xray she had 3 weeks earlier he replied there was a lot of infection so they didnt spot them. She was then transfered to a ward, she was on continuos oxygen and 5 nebulisers per day for 7 days, she was told that the lung cancer was secondary so they needed to do a scan to find main cancer site, that took 7 days and didnt find any other cancer. She was given intravenous antibiotics, she had been given her morning dose then 30 mins later another nurse came and started to give her another dose as she didnt know it had already been done! She was taken off her oxygen and discharged from hospital one hour later without any checks to see if she could manage without oxygen, she went home with no provision for oxygen or nebulisers, no district nurse was requested to check on her. She was told they would discuss what to do next with regards to the cancer and be in touch with her. This is not acceptable treatment of a patient.
"Disgusting treatment"
