"Good medical treatment but generally poor care for my mother at QMC"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Cardiology

(as a relative),

My mother was a patient on D57 at the Queen's Medical Centre for the treatment of a chronic heart condition. The medical care which she received from the nurses and doctors was good.

However, there was poor communication from the doctors to us - they seemed to lack interpersonal skills. On one occasion (2 weeks prior to discharge) a doctor informed us that mum would be discharged the following day, as she wanted to go home. Since she was then unable to walk, incontinent and on oxygen, there was no way that she could go home. Although she was saying that she wanted to go home, she did realise that she needed further treatment and agreed to stay in hospital. Surely the doctor could have worked that out?

Also, once she was felt not to require further treatment we were rushed into making a decision regarding accommodation for my mum. We would have liked more time to be able to sort this out with her, but we were told that mum would be warned daily about the risks of MRSA and of her being open to hospital infections - this felt like a cruel form of blackmail by the hospital staff.
